Phonographs for SaleAlthough we are primarily record dealers, we usually have a few nice hand wound phonographs for sale. All phonographs are restored to good playing condition using original parts whenever possible. The cabinets are cleaned and touched up, but usually not refinished. We currently have the following available: Symphonion Music Box With 35 Discs ![]() ![]() ![]() Here is a very nice double comb Symphonion music box that plays 8 1/4" discs. It is in excellent condition with a nice case, a sturdy motor and no damage to either comb. The usual squeaks and other noises characteristic of an unrestored instrument are absent, indicating that some restoration work may have been done in the past. There is a slight bit of water staining on the inside cover picture, and the finish on the cabinet sides is a little bit grainy. The crank is not original, but it is quite useable. Otherwise, this is an excellent example of Symphonion craftsmanship. Included with the instrument is a collection of 35 discs, all of which appear to be playable. Some have some light rust and some wear on the title information, but all those we have tried play perfectly. The discs are in a sturdy black carrying case with a leather handle. The price is $1295.00 firm. Pickup in Roseville CA is preferred, as the instrument is both heavy and delicate, and would be costly to crate and ship. If shipping is requested, buyer pays all crating and shipping costs. California buyers must pay 7.25% sales tax or provide a valid resale number. Please contact us for further information or to make an appointment to see and hear this lovely music box. Standard Phonograph, Model A ![]() ![]() The Standard phonograph was made by the Columbia company, and bears a strong resembelance to Columbia models of the same era. This particular example dates from about 1906. It is equiped with the original 1/2" spindle shaft to play "Standard" records (which were really not so standard). The instrument is fully original with the exception of the crank escutsion, which looks good but is a replacement from a later phonograph. The motor has been cleaned and lubricated and runs well. The reproducer has been rebuilt, so the phonograph plays and sounds like new. The condition of the cabinet and metal parts is very good, with only the amount of wear you would expect from a phonograph of this era. The horn appears to have been repainted quite a few years ago, as the paint has acquired a patina which looks particularly good with the machine. Ten "Standard" records are included, and more are readily available. The price is $595.00 firm. Pickup in Roseville CA is preferred, although shipping can be arranged. If shipping is requested, buyer pays all crating and shipping costs. California buyers must pay 7.25% sales tax or provide a valid resale number. Please contact us for further information or to make an appointment to see and hear this unusual phonograph. Regina 8" Music Box, Style 22 ![]() ![]() The serial number of this music box is 61332 and it was shipped from the Regina factory between 1900 and 1902. It is in excellent original condition and plays quite well. Although the dampers are slightly noisy, there are no broken teeth, damaged or missing parts, or obvious reproduction parts. The illustration inside the lid is original and in excellent condition. The only defect worth noting is that the swinging hook on the front lid catch is missing. Some cosmetic work appears to have been done several years ago. Some of the metal parts have been polished, and the cabinet may have been refinished, or at least touched up. This work has acquired it's own patina, and looks quite natural on the instrument. Two reproduction discs are included, and many more are available. A catalog of available titles is included The price is $995.00 firm. Edison C-19 in Unique American Walnut Cabinet ![]() ![]() Although the model C-19 is not a rare machine, it is very unusual to find one in a custom cabinet. This example is housed in a fine American Walnut case, with grain and swirl patterns similar to Circassian Walnut. The cabinet has been professionally refinished and the beauty of the wood is striking. Another unique feature is that the mechanism is finished in antique bronze, instead of the gold plating usually found on this model. The turntable felt is original and is brown rather than green. Overall, the American Walnut cabinet and the antique bronze interior complement each other and make a very eye catching instrument. Two things must be pointed out, however. For some reason, the refinisher chose to install a strip of molding along the bottom edges of the cabinet. It has been glued and screwed into place, and is not easily removeable, although it does not detract from the appearance. Also, there is some damage and repair to the top of the lid which is appraent in the close up photograph. On the positive side, the motor has been cleaned and lubricated and runs perfectly. The reproducer has been rebuilt, so the phonograph plays and sounds like new. Considering the alteration of the added molding and the visible repair work on the lid, the phonograph is priced at only $795.00, well below the market value of other custom walnut cabinets. Pickup in Roseville CA is preferred, as the instrument is heavy and would be costly to crate and ship. If shipping is requested, buyer pays all crating and shipping costs. California buyers must pay 7.25% sales tax or provide a valid resale number. Please contact us for further information or to make an appointment to see this unusual Edison model. Columbia BF Peerless With Six Inch Mandrel ![]() ![]() The Columbia BF "Peerless" was unique in that it has an extended mandrel to play the rare "Twentieth Century" six inch Columbia Cylinder. Of course it also plays any type of standard 2 minute cylinder. This example is equipped with a large Hawthorn & Sheble horn with a rear support crane. The horn still maintains its original paint, and has only a few marks and scratches. The phonograph is in very good condition, and plays perfectly. The reproducer has been rebuilt, and the motor has been cleaned, lubricated and adjusted properly. The nickle plating on the bedplate is quite shiny, the floral decorations are still bright and colorful, and the finish on the cabinet is original and looks good. The single reproduction part on the machine is the upper rod of the horn crane. The only word of caution on this fine instrument is that with its large horn, it tends to be a bit front heavy, and should be placed on a very secure table or cabinet. Priced at $1295, pickup in Roseville CA preferred as shipment of the large horn may be difficult. If shipping is requested, buyer pays all crating and shipping costs. California Residents must pay 7.25% sales tax or provide a valid resale number. Please contact us for further information. These phonographs are available for inspection by appointment only. We may also have other phonographs that are either displayed at our Retail Location, or at our Spring and Fall antique shows.
